So when are Android's Paid Market Apps coming to New Zealand?

By Benedict Wee

Vodafone's HTC Magic has been on sale for about 2 weeks now (give or take its mini-disappearing act) and Android users have been wondering when will the paid Market apps be available as all the good ones have to be purchased. A quick online research led me to the Google Android Market support page and the list of countries that support paid apps. They include:
  • Austria
  • France
  • Germany
  • Italy
  • Netherlands
  • Spain
  • United Kingdom
  • United States
It's pretty weird that the non-english speaking countries get paid applications before we do. You'd expect they would find it more tedious to both translate the apps to the appropriate language and setting up the exchange rate of the country. Ah well, Google says it's working hard to add more countries so I guess the only thing we can do is wait, and bug them senseless.

But there's more.

The list above the "Countries with paid apps" one has a list of countries which provide free applications for Android users.

As you can see, we're not on that list either. Did someone forget to put us in? You would think that Vodafone NZ might've ask them to at least include our country in the list. I'm feeling kinda left out from the Android party here. What's worse is I fear that Google might concentrate to provide paid apps to those on the current "free apps" list and totally forget about us since we're not on it. If that is true it would suck big time. Someone please tell Google to do something about it.

Those who are anxiously waiting for the day to come can bookmark the page from the link below and check it daily. Lemme know when there's a change if you do.
